This is MY story. Not the story of the legendary Dagger Li. For that you'd have to read the books.
I am a busy stay at home mother to 2 little princesses (soon to be 3).
I grew up under a paternal grandmother and a father who are famously ‘tzeem jui’ (Cantonese saying meaning 'sharp-mouthed’, ie picky about food). And a very adventurous cook of a mother who loved to learn how to cook everything from scratch.
I have been exposed to good Chinese food ever since I was young. But I never quite appreciated it. After all, if you eat good food everyday, it becomes the norm for you, the minimal standard for edible food. And then I grew up, and found myself having to eat out often on my own or with friends. It was then that I discovered to my horror that food could actually taste bad. And worse, that people managed to make a living selling such food.
Traumatised by that whole experience, I became very grateful for my mum's home-cooked food (much to her puzzlement) and started taking an interest in cooking, for my own survival. I have not stopped cooking since.
In this blog, I hope to share some Kitchen Kung Fu with you, and to learn some as well. Happy cooking!!
